Translation memory is highly sought after and beneficial when it comes to recurring translation work. It matches previously translated segments that have already been translated, and uses them so you don't have to pay full price for the same segment twice. Moreover, because the translation is being picked up from existing translation in past, it helps maintain consistency in overall translation. This tool is self learning by nature and keeps expanding overtime allowing to improve the speed and quality of the translations overtime.
